wow this google tool even has a handwriting thing where you can draw the kanji with the mouse and it detects which ones look similar to what you drew

亅みろ弓与〆孑白又
 1  2 3 4 5  6  7  8  9

i drew "1" through "9" and these are the kanji / kana it detected

hi i am talking in japanese 私わ日本語で話します。i installed google's japanese IME to be able to do this; i press alt+~ to switch between the two modes. i'm still learning how to use it, but it's pretty amazing -- you type something in romanji and the hirigana appear, and it turns to kanji where appropriate (you can scroll through a list for homonyms, otherwise it just uses what it thinks you mean; becaue it's google it's very accurate in predicting what it thinks you mean). i need to remember the hotkeys:

alt + ~: goes between normal and direct mode
alt + caps lock: goes to カタカナ
ctrl + caps lock: goes to ひらがな
shift+alt: goes between english and 日本語

this entry isn't important, but newy had asked me on the phone how it is that people type in japanese with all the kana and thousands of kanji, and i didn't really know fully myself, so i figured it out today. it's pretty convenient
